First proposed by Gerard 't Hooft in the context of string theory and developed by Juan Maldacena [ AdS/CFT ] it states that “the description of a volume of space can be thought of as encoded on a lower-dimensional boundary to the region”. Both the size of a painting and ratio of lengths of the sides perform the same function vis a vis its contents.
